The Excitations Group operates four spectrometers: MAPS; HET; MARI and
PRISMA.  A new chopper spectrometer, MERLIN, is due to be commissioned in
2004.  The scientific programme is broad, encompassing magnetism,
superconductivity, amorphous materials, chemical spectroscopy and quantum
fluids.

We are seeking to recruit an established scientist with demonstrated
leadership potential as Group Leader.  The successful candidate will provide
scientific and technical leadership to the Group, maintain and develop
strong links to the user community, co-ordinate the Group's instrument
development programme in addition to managing staff and the operating
budget.  A PhD in the physical sciences and previous neutron scattering
experience are essential. 
Starting salary up to £39,370 per annum depending on experience. In the
range £31,500 - £43,310. A generous leave allowance and an excellent
indexed-linked pension scheme are also offered.
