LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY
JOB # 202696
POSTDOC

Summary: Postdoc Position in Neutron Scattering: The Manuel Lujan Jr.
Neutron Scattering Center (LANSCE-12) and the Nuclear Materials Science
Group (NMT-16) are seeking as postdoctoral candidate for a joint position
in modeling and analysis of neutron scattering experiments on highly
absorbing materials. The goal of this research project involves:
· Developing sound models for prediction and interpretation of
neutron scattering data, mainly via diffraction or small-angle, taken with
samples that contain highly absorbing materials such as iridium and some
plutonium alloys
· Develop computer program for the models and for analysis of the data
· Propose, plan, and execute experiments that will validate the model
and analysis programs

Required Skills: Familiarity with scattering techniques such as neutron and
x-rays and modeling of the scattering functions. Knowledge of programming
in a Windows operating system. Excellent oral and written communication
skills. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy “Q-Clearance,’ which
normally requires US citizenship.

Desired Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of neutron scattering
techniques. Experience with Monte Carlo methods.

Education: A Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics or another physical
science completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.

Notes to Applicants: For additional information about the project, please
contact Joyce Roberts at joycer at lanl.gov. Visit the Lujan Neutron
Scattering Center web site at http://lansce.lanl.gov/Lujan/index.htm.
