_Vacancy for a Research Scientist_

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is
Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using
neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world,
reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific
instruments. The Institute welcomes 1700 visiting scientists per year to
carry out world class research in solid state physics, crystallography,
soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded
primarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and the United
Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaboration agreements
with 9 other European countries.
The Science Division currently has a vacancy for a:*
*

*RESEARCH SCIENTIST (m/f) *
*- Structural biology -*

**There is currently an opening in the *Large Scale Structures group* of
the ILL for a scientist interested in the structure of biological
macromolecules to work in the field of *neutron protein crystallography*
using the image plate diffractometer
LADI(http://www.ill.fr/YellowBookCDrom/data/6_5_5.pdf). A new improved,
version of the diffractometer, LADI3, has recently been delivered and
will be commissioned in the coming months.

The post, which is offered on a fixed-term basis, represents an
excellent opportunity for a young postdoctoral scientist to develop his
expertise, broaden his experience and interact with leading scientists
from around the world. More experienced scientists on detachment will
also be considered.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and have experience in
biological crystallography and an interest in both instrumental and
software development in this field. He/she will be jointly responsible
for the development and operation of the instrument in collaboration
with personnel from the EMBL. The ILL is an active partner with EMBL,
ESRF and IBS in the Partnership for Structural Biology (PSB) a dynamic
on-site collaboration between several Grenoble-based institutes. The
presence within this partnership of a new facility for /in vivo/
Deuteration will give the successful candidate the opportunity of
carrying out his/her own research in the best-equipped environment for
biological neutron diffraction in the world.

The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract, the
duration of which will under no circumstances exceed five (5) years. In
addition to a competitive salary, certain benefits (reimbursement of
removal expenses, adaptation allowance, etc.) may be offered.

Further information on the Large Scale Structures group and its
activities can be obtained at http://www.ill.fr/LSS and on the PSB at
http://psb.esrf.fr <http://psb.esrf.fr/> or from: Dr P. A. Timmins (Tel:
(33) 476207263, timmins at ill.fr).
An application with curriculum vitae, a list of publications and the
names of two academic referees should be sent, quoting reference *06/36,
*no later than *01.09.2006,* preferably in electronic form to:
timmins at ill.fr <mailto:timmins at ill.fr> or posted to:
