Job Description

The Intense Pulsed Neutron Source Division at Argonne National
Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Appointee. The
candidate will assist users with planning, execution and analysis of
experiments and take part in neutron and/or x-ray scattering research
and computer simulation and modeling. Participate in the ongoing
research projects on the structure and dynamics of novel materials,
e.g., water in confinement and in minerals, carbon nano-materials,
prospective hydrogen storage materials, metal hydrides, colossal
magneto-caloric materials, proton conductors, etc., using HRMECS and
other spectrometers if needed. Engage in the development of
data-analysis software and improvement of hardware components of HRMECS.
Research done in these areas will increase the productivity in the
ongoing collaborative projects and increase the user base in this new
scientific area requiring multi-disciplinary approach. A recent PhD in
chemistry, physics, or materials science. Experience in neutron and
x-ray scattering applications in condensed matter research, analysis
software development and instrument development. Analytical skills of
treating experimental data and skills in preparing samples for neutron
scattering, computer simulation and modeling. Interested candidates
should send a detailed CV, along with a list of publications, and the
names and addresses of three references through the Argonne web site at
http://www.anl.gov/jobs under job search for postdoctoral/job openings,
for requisition number 311184 PNS. Argonne is a U.S. Department of
Energy laboratory managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC. Argonne is an equal
opportunity employer, and we value diversity in our workforce.
