joint appointments

CONDENSED MATTER science - MAGNETISM

BRAGG-UNSW at ADFA research FELLOW

postgraduate research scholarship

Applications are invited for the above positions for projects on the
structural and magnetic properties of advanced magnetic materials. The
positions are funded jointly by UNSW at ADFA, The University of New South
Wales, and The Bragg Institute, ANSTO and are available from 1 March 2007.

The experimentally based research project will include developmental and
theoretical aspects in modern condensed matter science, particularly
magnetism. In addition to exploiting the neutron facilities at reactor
OPAL, ANSTO, the research will involve x-ray diffraction; Mössbauer
spectroscopy and magnetization measurements at the modern laboratories of
the Schools of Physical, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences, UNSW at ADFA,
Canberra and The Bragg Institute, ANSTO, Sydney.

· The Research Fellow (RF) will be appointed at Academic Level B
($66,654 to $78,577) and should have at least five years relevant
post-doctoral experience. The position is available for 3 years subject to

70%) with the remaining periods at The Bragg Institute, ANSTO (there is
scope for possible continuation for a further 2 years).

· The Postgraduate Student will be enrolled for a PhD degree at
UNSW at ADFA and based primarily at The Bragg Institute, ANSTO (about 70%) with
the remaining periods at UNSW at ADFA. The scholarship ($26,000 per annum) is
available for up to 3.5 years subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should have an honours degree (1 or 2.1), or equivalent, in
Physics, Physical Chemistry or a related subject.

· Contributions to relocation expenses and travel expenses
associated with the positions are available. As well supportive research
funds are available to the Research Fellow on successful application.

For application details please contact Ms Dianne Ferguson (02) 6268 6278 or
e-mail d.ferguson at adfa.edu.au. When applying for these positions, please
send a copy of your CV with a covering letter (applicants for the Research
Fellowship should also address the selection criteria) to HR Recruitment,
UNSW at ADFA, Australian Defence Force Academy, Northcott Drive, Canberra, ACT
2600. You may email your application to:
