The Neutron Science Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory invites
applications for the Neutron Scattering User Laboratory Support
Coordinator. The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), when combined with the
High Flux Isotope Reactor makes Oak Ridge the world's foremost center
for Neutron Science. SNS is the most powerful short-pulse spallation
neutron source in the world. These unique facilities will provide
opportunities for up to 2000 researchers each year from universities,
national labs, and industry for basic and applied research and
technology development in the fields of materials science, magnetic
materials, polymers and complex fluids, chemistry, and biology. Funded
by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, SNS began
operations in June 2006.

The Neutron Scattering User Science Laboratory Coordinator develops,
implements, and supports user programs for the SNS neutron scattering
community.

Major duties and responsibilities are listed below.

*	With input from the User community, defines purchases and
manages laboratory equipment necessary to support laboratory scale
experiments.
*	Defines and develops for web based application, safety and
operational training programs that cover use of laboratory space and
equipment. Interfaces with User Administration with respect to tracking
User data via a centralized data base.
*	Develops an asset management tracking system for samples, and
laboratory equipment and supplies.
*	Provides comprehensive support to Users in order for them to
achieve their scientific mission.
*	Assigns and manages laboratory space, including safety review of
bench scale experiments and user provided equipment.
*	Develops and maintains required record keeping reports, i.e.
equipment calibration data, routine inspections.
*	Defines and provides laboratory supply inventory
*	Writes appropriate sections of user guides, reference manuals,
and help files.
*	Takes initiative to strengthen support for SNS laboratory use,
by staying in touch with principal investigators and attending project
meetings, where discussion of research needs can contribute to their
success and uses this information to improve and enhance laboratory
performance.

laboratory support technicians.
*	Ensures compliance with training, environmental, safety, health,
and quality programs.

Successful candidate must have a Bachelors degree in an engineering or
scientific discipline with two years experience in user programs at a
major user facility or an equivalent combination of education and
relevant experience. Must have demonstrated highly effective oral and
written communications skills with individuals and groups. Expertise in
the use of standard Microsoft products (excel, word and powerpoint) is
required. Must also work independently to efficiently accomplish
assigned tasks. Requires experience working with a diverse group of
people who have a wide range of technical backgrounds ranging from
physics, computer science, and engineering. Domestic and foreign travel
