Tenure track fellowships for career researchers with a record in neutron
scattering

The new OPAL research reactor at Lucas Heights is opening up new
possibilities in neutron scattering research in Australia.

The fellowships are offered at academic level B for outstanding and
enthusiastic scientists to undertake research in areas of science and
technology requiring the use the OPAL reactor. Fellows will be expected to
build a research group in one of the AINSE member universities and be
attached to ANSTO for experiments on the new, state of the art facilities on
OPAL.

AINSE has decided to highlight two research directions in calling for
applications for Research Fellowships this year.

We emphasise that applications for PGRAs will also be considered, as in past
years, where the research aligns with the broad spectrum of research foci
supported by AINSE. Also, while the two highlighted directions are being
promoted in calling for Research Fellowship applications, applicants may
wish to propose research programs falling outside these topics which require
use of OPAL neutron scattering facilities and which align with the joint
research interests of ANSTO and AINSE member universities.

The nominated research directions for 2007 applications are:

1.	Developing materials that can operate in environments with extremes
of temperature, pressure, radiation and stress.

2.	Using neutron scattering to gain a better understanding of
biological interactions at a molecular level .

Applications are now open
