JOINT APPOINTMENT - POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

CONDENSED MATTER science - MAGNETISM

Applications are invited for the above scholarship for research studies into
the structural and magnetic properties of advanced magnetic materials. The
position, which is funded jointly by UNSW at ADFA, The University of New South
Wales, and The Bragg Institute, ANSTO, is available immediately.

The experimentally based research project will also include developmental
and theoretical aspects in modern condensed matter science. In addition to
exploiting the neutron facilities at reactor OPAL, ANSTO, the research will
involve x-ray diffraction; Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetization
measurements at the modern laboratories of the Schools of Physical,
Environmental and Mathematical Sciences, UNSW at ADFA, Canberra and The Bragg
Institute, ANSTO, Sydney.

· The Postgraduate Student will be enrolled for a PhD degree at
UNSW at ADFA and be based primarily at The Bragg Institute, ANSTO (about 70%)
with the remaining periods at UNSW at ADFA. The scholarship ($26,000 per
annum) is available for up to 3.5 years subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should have an honours degree (1 or 2.1), or equivalent, in
Physics, Physical Chemistry or a related subject. People from EEO groups
are encouraged to apply.

· A contribution to relocation expenses and travel expenses
associated with the position is available.

· To apply, please send a copy of your CV and academic record with a
covering letter of application to Ms Dianne Ferguson, Executive Officer,
School of PEMS, UNSW at ADFA (e-mail d.ferguson at adfa.edu.au
