Instrument Scientist - Neutron Scattering
Salary range $79K to $83K (plus super)
 
You're invited to be part of one of Australia's foremost scientific
research and development organisations, focused on delivering the
benefits of nuclear science to the Australian community.  

 
Based in southern Sydney, and close to the Pacific Ocean, at Lucas
Heights, our neutron scattering scientists are responsible for the
operation, research use, and development of a range of neutron beam
instruments.
 
We are seeking a scientist to participate in the operation of the
state-of-the-art small angle neutron scattering instrument at
Australia's new Research Reactor OPAL, which has recently been
commissioned.
 
Successful candidates will be expected to conduct a high-quality
research program, in collaboration with Australian universities,
industry, other ANSTO institutes and overseas scientists.  Possible
areas of work may include soft-matter physics, magnetism, chemistry,
structural biology, or materials science.  

 
Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. in condensed-matter physics,
chemistry, materials science or a related area, excellent interpersonal
and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work both
independently and in teams.  Experience at, or using, major
neutron-scattering or x-ray synchrotron facilities will be an advantage.
 
To be eligible for appointment, applicants will require a security and
medical assessment and Australian citizens are preferred.
