Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neutron Scattering
Neutron Scattering Science Division
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge, Tennessee

ORNL10-21-NSSD

Project Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will conduct investigations of thermoelectric materials using neutron scattering, in collaboration with the S3TEC Energy Frontier Research Center (http://s3tec.mit.edu/ ).

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 * Participate in and conduct independent and collaborative neutron scattering experiments at SNS and HFIR.
 * Participate in characterization of samples and/or analysis of model simulations as necessary to pursue research.
 * Possible travel to other neutron sources to execute scattering experiments and analyze the experimental data.
 * Publish research results in scientific journals.
 * Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of laboratory values and ethics.

Qualifications:
Recent Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related fields will be considered. Demonstrated expertise in materials physics is required and experience with neutron and/or x-ray scattering is highly desirable. Knowledge about thermodynamic and transport properties, phonons, or computer simulations of microscopic dynamics will be an advantage.

Strong written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a team environment on scientifically challenging problems are required. The successful candidate will conduct research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and make use of the Spallation Neutron Source, the High Flux Isotope Reactor and other neutron/x-ray. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.

Technical Questions:
Questions regarding the position can be directed to Olivier Delaire at delaireoa at ornl.gov<mailto:delaireoa at ornl.gov>. Please include the requisition number and title when corresponding.

How to Apply:
Qualified applicants must apply online at https://www2.orau.gov/ORNL_POST/. All applicants will need to register before they can begin the online application. For complete instructions, on how to apply, please see the instructions at http://www.orau.gov/orise/edu/ornl/ornl-pdpm/application.htm.

This appointment is offered through the ORNL Postgraduate Research Participation Program and is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The program is open to all qualified U.S. and non-U.S. citizens without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, or status as a Vietnam-era veteran or disabled veteran.
