Forschungszentrum Juelich (Germany) operates a branch of the Juelich Centre for Neutron Science at the MW-Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) in Oak Ridge, USA. In a collaboration between JCNS and SNS, a new diffractometer for non-equilibrium states of condensed matter shall be developed.

Job description:
The job offers the opportunity to develop a new instrument at a leading neutron source and to establish a new measuring method: scientific and technical layout of the instrument; optimization by means of Monte-Carlo simulations; experiments to enhance the resolution by Larmor labelling and to develop specialized sample environment for pulsed fields; drafting of the design report; eventually coordination of construction and commissioning

What we expect from you:
Interest in scientific and technical problems related to method development; readiness to cooperate and ability to coordinate technical work; mobility (experiments at large scale facilities, longer stay in the US); experience with scattering (neutrons or x-rays); good command of English.

Welcome is:
Knowledge of physics or chemistry of condensed matter; experiences with development of software or of scientific instruments.

We offer initially a three year fixed term contract.
