Instruments Project Engineer
The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for two "Instruments Project Engineers".

Description of position/department
The Instrument Project Engineers will work within the Instruments Division under the Science Directorate. The mission of the Instruments Division is to design, construct and operate the neutron instruments of the ESS, which currently numbers 6 instrument scientists. For the construction phase, the staffing will increase to include post-docs and project engineers, both working closely with the instrument scientists to fulfill the mission of the Division. Close collaboration with scientists and engineers in Target Division and Programme Office is essential to achieve our mission. 

Description of main responsibilities
The Instrument Project Engineers will be placed in the Instruments Division of the Science Directorate and will coordinate activities closely with the Chief Instrument Project Engineer at the ESS Programme Office. She/he will work closely with instrument scientists and undertake engineering design and project management of individual neutron instrument construction projects and their final installation. It will also be expected that the instrument project engineers support the project office in preparing ESS for instrument construction by implementing instrument construction codes and guidelines as well as project specifications. 
 
Qualifications
Higher education degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
Experience in instrument construction and project management in a scientific facility.
Experience in instrument construction and project management in a leading neutron scattering facility, is desirable.
Experience of working in an international environment is essential. 
Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

The European Spallation Source ESS AB will design, build and operate a multi-disciplinary, large-scale research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. ESS will provide scientists with unique and powerful neutron scattering instruments for the study of a large range of materials – from polymers and pharmaceuticals to membranes and molecules.
