Nuclear Physics Institute of the ASCR in Řež near Prague, Czech
Republic, invites applications for an/instrument scientist in neutron
diffraction/. The position is open to candidates who have (or are about
to receive) a PhD in physics, chemistry, material science and
engineering or related areas, and have a proven record of experience
with experimental research in materials science. A background in neutron
or X-ray diffraction is highly desirable. The candidate should have good
communication skills.

The Nuclear Physics Institute ASCR, public research institution, is a
member of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. With about 250
employees, it hosts the user infrastructure CANAM (see
http://canam.ujf.cas.cz/), which includes also the Neutron Physics
Laboratory (NPL). The NPL combines expertise in the field of materials
science with the power of neutron physics. It operates user facilities,
which are open to both national and international guest scientists.

The successful candidate will participate in the research and
development work associated with neutron scattering instrumentation at
the neutron diffractometers dedicated to strain/stress characterization.
Responsibilities include cooperating with visiting researchers in
conducting experiments and reducing data in subjects like micro- or
macro-strain characterization in materials (e.g. welded metals) in the
frame of the CANAM Open Access user program. At the NPL, at least 40% of
the instrument beam time is reserved for external research proposals.
She/he will also participate in the instrument development as well as in
equipment and software upgrade projects at the diffractometer.
Instrument Scientist is also expected to develop research program
(preferably in the field of stress/strain characterization and related
topics) using the diffractometer and/or other facilities at the NPL.

For more infromation, contact Dr. Pavel Strunz (strunz at ujf.cas.cz).

/Timescale of the appointment:/ The appointment will initially be for
three years with the possibility of extension (subject to satisfactory
performance).
/Closing date for applications//: /22 April 2013

Applicants should send a letter of application, a detailed academic
C.V., a list of publications, the contact details of at least two
academic referees and copies of degrees to
