2013 Lujan Neutron Scattering Center: Call for Proposals
For beam time between August 13th and December 21st 2013
You are invited to submit research proposals for access to the Lujan Neutron Scattering Center<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/index.shtml>’s instruments<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments.shtml> for the 2013 run cycle. Successful proposals will be scheduled between August 13 and December 21 2013.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is 5:00 p.m. (MDT) on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
Instruments<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments.shtml> available in the Office of Science User Program:
NPDF<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/NPDF.shtml> (high resolution neutron powder diffraction, pair distribution function analysis)
SMARTS<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/SMARTS.shtml> (engineering diffraction, residual and induced stress, phase transformations)
HIPPO<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/HIPPO.shtml> (general powder diffraction, texture and high pressure studies)
FDS<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/FDS.shtml> (chemical spectroscopy)
SPEAR<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/SPEAR.shtml> (neutron reflectometer, soft matter, bio-materials)
LQD<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/LQD.shtml> (small angle neutron scattering, disordered systems)
Asterix<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/ASTERIX.shtml> (polarized beam reflectometer/diffractometer/grazing-incidence-SANS/SESAME-enabled-SANS spectrometer)
PCS<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/PCS.shtml> (protein crystallography)
Information concerning these instruments and sample environment available may be obtained by contacting the beamline scientists<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments.shtml>or the Lujan User Program Administrator (lujan-uo at lanl.gov<mailto:lujan-uo at lanl.gov>, Phone: 505-667-5649). Users are encouraged to contact the beamline scientist when writing proposals.

Instruments<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments.shtml> available in collaboration with Lujan staff (not supported by Office of Science) include:
HIPD<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/HIPD.shtml>(high intensity-medium resolutionpowder diffraction, magnetism, pair distribution function analysis)
SCD<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/SCD.shtml> (single crystal diffractometer)
Pharos<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments/PHAROS.shtml>(high-resolution chopper spectrometer)
Information concerning the availability of these instruments may be obtained by contacting Dr. Anna Llobet<mailto:allobet at lanl.gov>, Deputy Center Leader (acting) (allobet at lanl.gov<mailto:allobet at lanl.gov>, Phone: 505-665-1367)

 Proposal Submission Process:
To submit a proposal please log in to the LANSCE Proposal Portal. <https://www.lanl.gov/orgs/lansce/>
First time users:Go to the LANSCE user registration site<https://www.lanl.gov/orgs/lansce/register/register.php> from which you can create a new user account and proceed to the LANSCE Proposal Portal<https://www.lanl.gov/orgs/lansce/>.
Current Users: If you are a current user but did not log in to the proposal submission site since 2012 you will need to create a new password. Your e-mail address is your User Name. You can do this by clicking on the “forgot your password” link. This will send an email with a link enabling you to set a new password.
Information on proposal submission may be found here<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/proprocess.shtml>. Proposals should not exceed two pages in length. Proposers are encouraged to address scientific impact and acknowledge references to publications that resulted from previous beam allocations at the Lujan Center. For guidance on proposal writing go to: Tips for writing a successful proposal<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/protips.shtml>
For questions relating to selection of an appropriate flight path or technical viability users are encouraged to contact either Lujan Center instrument scientists or Dr. Anna Llobet<mailto:allobet at lanl.gov>, (allobet at lanl.gov<mailto:allobet at lanl.gov> , Phone: 505-665-1367).

For questions relating to proposal submission problems, submission of classified proposals or to propose proprietary work, please contact the Lujan User Program Administrator (lujan-uo at lanl.gov<mailto:lujan-uo at lanl.gov>, Phone: 505-667-5649).
[United States Department of Energy regulations require advance notice for non-US citizens visiting LANSCE. Please list all non-US citizens planning to visit on the proposal to ensure sufficient time is allocated to process access requests].
Proposal Review Process:
Proposals will be reviewed in June 2013 by the Materials Program Advisory Committee (MPAC), which will rank and rate the scientific merit of proposals. Proposal status notifications and beam time allocations will be communicated in early July 2013.

We look forward to receiving your proposals for beam time and to enabling your neutron scattering research.
