2014 Lujan Neutron Scattering Center: First Focused Call for Proposals

• The Lujan Center call for proposals opens May 6, 2014.
• Deadline is: June 6, 2014 at 5:00 pm MDT.
• Read the Full Call for Proposals<http://lansce.lanl.gov/uresources/Lujanproposals.shtml>
• Proposal Submission Site<http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/lansce>

Due to the proposed cessation of funding for the Lujan Neutron Scattering Center operations from the DOE's Office of Science Basic Energy Sciences, this call for proposals for Lujan Center instruments will be limited to NNSA related work across all NNSA sites, Work for Others (WFO), and LANL internal users. Proposals for Nuclear Science research (on FP5, 12 and 14) are already covered in the Nuclear Science proposal call<http://lansce.lanl.gov/uresources/WNRproposals.shtml>.

The Lujan Neutron Scattering Center invites proposals addressing science of NNSA and LANL programmatic interest for the 2014 run cycle. Proposals that involve proprietary work or work for others (WFO) will also be considered using a full cost recovery model.

Call will be open from Tuesday May 6th, 2014 until 5:00 p.m. (MDT) Friday, June 6th, 2014.

Successful proposals will be scheduled between October 7th, 2014 and February 26th 2015.

Lujan Center capabilities include:
• Neutron powder diffraction (high resolution, high intensity, engineering)
• Neutron Single crystal diffraction
• Neutron reflectometry (polarized and unpolarized)
• Inelastic neutron scattering / spectroscopy
• Small angle neutron scattering
• Neutron radiography/tomography

Information on Lujan Center instruments and capabilities can be found on the Lujan instruments page<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/instruments.shtml>. Additional information on sample environment and specialized ancillary equipment available can be found on online<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/ancequip.shtml>. For any other questions, please contact the Lujan User Program office (lujan-uo at lanl.gov<mailto:lujan-uo at lanl.gov>).

Lujan Center areas of research include:
• Local structure, equation of state, surfaces, Interfaces and defects
• Residual and induced stress, phase transformations
• Texture, corrosion, in-situ phase transformations under P,T,H
• Polymers, membranes, proteins

For more information see Lujan Center Science Thrust Areas<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/thrust.shtml> and Lujan Center User Resources<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/resources.shtml>.

Proposal Submission
Proposers are encouraged to contact Lujan scientists. Proposals may be submitted online<http://lansce.lanl.gov/uresources/proposals.shtml> from May 6th until 5 p.m. June 6th 2014. The proposal text should not exceed two pages. For information on how the proposal submission process works, go to the proposal process page<http://lansce.lanl.gov/lujan/proprocess.shtml>.

To submit a classified proposal, please contact Dr. Anna Llobet (allobet at lanl.gov<mailto:allobet at lanl.gov>, 505-665-1367).
Any additional questions please contact the Lujan User Program Office (lujan-uo at lanl.gov<mailto:lujan-uo at lanl.gov>).

2014 WNR Call for Proposals

Accepting Fast Access Proposals.
• The WNR call for proposals is now open.
• Deadline: June 2, 2014 at 6:00 pm MDT.
• Read the Full Call for Proposals<http://lansce.lanl.gov/uresources/WNRproposals.shtml>
• Proposal Submission Site<http://www.lanl.gov/orgs/lansce>

The Nuclear Science program will be operating with six flight paths at Target-4, three flight paths at the Lujan Center and Target-2 (Blue Room).
You are invited to submit proposals for beam time at LANSCE for nuclear science experiments and semiconductor irradiations (ICE House, ICE-II) for the run cycle scheduled to begin in October 2014.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 6:00 p.m. (1800) Mountain Standard Time, Monday, June 2, 2014.

Successful proposals will be scheduled during the period from October through mid-February 2014.

Users are strongly encouraged to contact a flight path scientist<http://wnr.lanl.gov/> or the WNR User Office<mailto:tanyah at lanl.gov> to discuss selection of an appropriate flight path for their work.

Proposals for sole-use experiments (i.e., those that require dedicated facility operation, such as PSR beam to Target 2 and less than 800 MeV proton beam operation) should be discussed with the Target-2 point of contact (Ron Nelson<mailto:rnelson at lanl.gov>) so that policies associated with such experiments and the prospect of a particular experiment being accommodated can be discussed.

All non-proprietary proposals will be reviewed by the LANSCE Nuclear Program Advisory Committee (NPAC) which will meet at LANSCE in mid July, 2014 to review and rate proposal submissions. Proprietary proposals and those proposals that pay for beam time do not require NPAC review.

Please call or e-mail Tanya Herrera the Nuclear Science User Office administrator if you have questions: tanyah at lanl.gov<mailto:tanyah at lanl.gov> or 505-667-6797.
