Physicist as instrument scientist for the powder diffractometer DREAM for ESS/Lund
The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) provides scientists at universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout the world with access to neutron instruments of the highest performance class. For the European Spallation Source ESS, currently being built in Lund, Sweden, JCNS will construct the high resolution / high intensity neutron time-of-flight powder diffractometer DREAM.
We are looking to recruit a
Physicist as instrument scientist for the powder diffractometer DREAM for ESS/Lund
Your Job:

  *   Managing the layout, engineering design and later construction of the powder diffractometer DREAM with JCNS staff, the engineering department ZEA, the relevant departments at ESS and further European partners
  *   Building the instrument at the European Spallation Source in Lund as the lead project scientist
  *   Leading the instrument towards commissioning and user operation at ESS
  *   Participation in the JCNS research programme with a focus on magnetism and correlated electron systems

Your Profile:

  *   Excellent and highly motivated Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics or solid state chemistry
  *   Experience with scattering methods, in particular powder neutron diffraction
  *   Ability to efficiently manage a multi-million euro project and deliver in time and on budget
  *   Ability to lead a collaboration between many international partners
  *   Strong interest in challenging scientific and technical issues
  *   Well-structured and systematic working method
  *   Willingness to frequently travel between Juelich and Lund
