<p class=MsoNormal>The Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) invites applications for a Powder Diffraction Group
Leader.  With the United States’ highest flux reactor-based neutron
source for condensed matter research (the High Flux Isotope Reactor) and the
world's most intense pulsed, accelerator-based neutron source (the Spallation
Neutron Source), ORNL is becoming the world's foremost center for neutron
science. Research at these facilities encompasses the physical, chemical,
materials, biological, and medical sciences and will provide opportunities for
up to 2000 researchers each year from industry, research facilities, and
universities all over the world.  To learn more about Neutron Sciences at
ORNL go to: <a href="http://neutrons.ornl.gov">http://neutrons.ornl.gov</a>.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><b>PURPOSE:<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>The Powder Diffraction Group Leader is responsible for
ensuring the efficient operation and availability of the neutron scattering
instruments in the group and for developing the instruments in the group to
meet the changing scientific needs of the neutron scattering community.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><b>ROLE:<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Ensures the efficient and safe operation and continued
availability of neutron scattering instruments in the Powder Diffraction.
Organizes and leads efforts to continue development of instruments in the group
to meet the changing scientific needs of the neutron scattering community. The
Group Leader encourages the development of the scientific programs of those
scientists in the group, seeking opportunities for establishing collaborations
within and outside the group and participation in ORNL and external funding
initiatives.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><b>QUALIFICATIONS:<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>The successful candidate should have an excellent track
record, typically achieved after post doc attainment, with a minimum of 10
years of experience. An international reputation in the use of diffraction
techniques in neutron and/or synchrotron facilities is highly desired.
Preference will be given to those with demonstrated experience in leading a
research team. The candidate must be willing to work in a team environment on
technically and scientifically challenging problems.<o:p></o:p></p>
