The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking
outstanding research leaders for four Senior Scientist positions in the
Neutron Sciences Directorate. With the United States’ highest
flux reactor-based neutron source for condensed matter research (the High Flux
Isotope Reactor) and the world's most intense pulsed, accelerator-based neutron
source (the Spallation Neutron Source), ORNL is becoming the world's foremost
center for neutron science. Research at these facilities encompasses the
physical, chemical, materials, biological, and medical sciences and will
provide opportunities for up to 2000 researchers each year from industry,
research facilities, and universities all over the world. To learn more
about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to: http://neutrons.ornl.gov.

PURPOSE:

We seek candidates with outstanding records of
accomplishment and demonstrated ability to build world-leading and innovative
programs of neutron scattering research. While outstanding candidates from all
relevant science disciplines are invited to apply, areas specifically targeted
for growth and development are; energy materials (including photovoltaics,
catalysis and solid-state materials), environmental geosciences (including
carbon sequestration and chemistry in extreme environments), nano-structured
materials (including soft-matter, polymers and self-assembly), and biological
systems (bio-energy, bio-membranes and structural biology). Candidates are
expected to build programs that will deliver outstanding science in these areas
and drive the development of innovative scientific methods, tools and
technologies for neutron research. Senior scientists are expected to develop
key partnerships that cut across the Neutron Sciences Directorate and other
ORNL directorates, government agencies, universities and industry. Successful
candidates will be internationally recognized authorities in neutron scattering
sciences with a distinguished record of research and a demonstrated ability to
conceive and lead advanced research and development.

Qualifications:

The successful candidates will have an excellent track
record, typically achieved after post doc attainment, with a minimum of 15
years of experience. Demonstrated achievements in promoting collaborative
relationships and building multi-disciplinary research teams is required.
Strong communication skills including an extensive list of publications and
presentations required.
