Neutron Scattering Science Division (NSSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
(ORNL) invites applications for positions as Neutron Scattering Instrument
Associates in the Time of Flight Inelastic Scattering Group. The mission of the
division is to carry out and enable excellent and vibrant science programs
using neutron scattering instruments by supporting a world-class user science
program, developing and participating in signature science programs across
ORNL, and conducting cutting-edge in-house research. The NSSD is responsible
for operating and developing the neutron scattering instruments located at both
the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR).
Research at the facilities encompasses the physical, chemical, biological,
medical and materials sciences. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Neutron Scattering Instrument Associate serves as the technical specialist in
supporting day-to-day neutron beam line operation and assists facility users
and NSSD personnel in the performance of experiments and subsequent data

Serves as the technical specialist for the operation and maintenance of
sophisticated equipment used for neutron scattering. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Plans and leads in the testing and evaluation of new or developmental

sound conditions and that NSSD users perform their experiments in a safe and

Proposes, develops, and presents procedures for operating and maintaining

degree in science, engineering or related field, or B.S. degree plus 2 years of
experience in a science or engineering field. Good communications and
interpersonal skills required. Ability to work in a team environment required.
Demonstrated computer literacy including proficiency in word processing
required. Direct experience working on neutron scattering related instruments
and software is highly desirable. Must be capable of working with scientists
and engineers from verbal or written instructions. Must have demonstrated the
ability to bridge the gap between other technical disciplines during
installation, commissioning, and operations. Periods of moderate travel and
off-normal work hours will be required. Applicants cannot have received the
most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and
must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
