<p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify;text-autospace:none'>The National
Science Foundation (NSF) has recently provided funding to develop conceptual
and engineering designs for a new generation of neutron-spin manipulation
equipment for materials science investigations using neutron scattering. It is
expected that such equipment will enhance the scientific impact of several
spectrometers at major national user facilities such as the Spallation Neutron
Source, the NIST Center for Neutron Research and the Los Alamos Neutron Science
Center. There is an opportunity for a postdoc to join this project, which will
be centered at the Center for the Exploration of Energy and Matter (CEEM) at
Indiana University and involve extensive interactions with the national neutron
facilities. CEEM is a multipurpose laboratory which conducts and supports basic
research in nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, accelerator physics, condensed
matter and the life sciences. It is the site of a small, long-pulsed neutron
source (The Low Energy Neutron Source – LENS) used for research,
instrument development and education. Information about the IU Physics
Department and CEEM can be found at <a href="http://www.physics.indiana.edu/">http://www.physics.indiana.edu</a>,
and <a href="http://ceem.indiana.edu">http://ceem.indiana.edu</a>. The position
is available immediately and is expected to last for two years, subject to
satisfactory performance. Major duties associated with the position will
include the design, prototyping and testing of equipment for neutron spin
manipulation. There will be opportunities for the postdoc to pursue their own
research interests using polarized neutrons both at LENS and at National
Facilities. A completed Ph.D. degree is required prior to assuming the
position. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Professor Roger Pynn
at <a href="mailto:rpynn@indiana.edu">rpynn@indiana.edu</a> or 505-670-9708 for
further information. Candidates should submit a letter of application, a
curriculum vitae, a description of research interests and accomplishments, and
a list of publications, and they should arrange for submission of at least
three letters of reference by email to Professor Roger Pynn at <a

Applications received before December 1, 2010 may receive preference. Indiana
