The Instrument Support Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at ESS. The detector group is currently focused on performing the necessary research and development for alternatives to He-3 detectors for neutron detection. <br><br><strong>Description of main responsibilities</strong><br>The successful candidate will provide simulation expertise for the detector group. This is in close collaboration with existing efforts at FRM-II in Munich and the ILL in Grenoble. This collaboration focuses upon gaseous detectors, with thin layers of Boron-10 as a converter material. The successful candidate will lead this collaborative effort and build upon existing results in order to understand the performance and optimise the design of future such detectors. <br><br><strong>Qualifications</strong><br><ul><li>PhD in physics, computing or any of the natural sciences.</li><li>Prior experience with using simulation tools and Monte Carlo techniques are required, as is a demonstrated ability in data analysis. In particular, familiarity with detector simulation and simulation programs such as GEANT, MCSTAS, MCNP, or GARFIELD, etc. would be advantageous.
