With the world’s highest-flux, reactor-based neutron source (the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR)), and the world's most intense pulsed, accelerator-based neutron source (the Spallation Neutron Source)<span class=GramE>,</span> ORNL has become the world's foremost center for neutron science. This will include being the local contact for users, reviewing proposals for feasibility, and reducing and analyzing data.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri'>*Work with other staff and research groups at ORNL to conduct world-leading research using the GP-SANS and related instruments at ORNL.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri'>*Maintain the instrument and coordinate with support groups to ready the instrument for each user experiment.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri'>*Work with the GP-SANS team to conceive, plan, and execute upgrades of the instrument. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a vigorous scientific program in soft condensed matter science.<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>An extensive record of research accomplishments using neutron and/or x-ray scattering is required. A Ph.D. and several years of experience as a research scientist in material science, physics, chemistry, or related fields (or equivalent combination of training and experience) are also required. Strong written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a team environment on technically- and scientifically-challenging problems are required. Expertise in SANS and/or SAXS techniques is highly desired.
