May 2013. The course is normally highly oversubscribed, so we encourage applicants to apply in plenty of time, as late applications will not be accepted. Students are selected for the course, based on their requirements for neutron scattering techniques as
part of their present and future research activities.</span></font></div>

<font size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;">The school provides an excellent introduction to neutron scattering which is developed through to its application in contemporary research. As such it is ideally suited to research students and postdoctoral researchers. The
school consists mainly of lectures and tutorials in the theory and practicalities of neutron scattering, and includes a tour of the ISIS pulsed neutron facility in Didcot. </span></font></div>
<div align="left" style="text-align:justify;margin-top:12pt;padding-left:31.7pt;">
<font size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;">In the first week of the school, students are introduced to the core concepts of the theory of neutron scattering, neutron sources and instrumentation and neutron diffraction. In the second week, the school covers
more specialised neutron scattering techniques, and applications to scientific fields of interest. Among the techniques covered in the second week are; inelastic scattering, polarized neutrons, imaging techniques, small-angle scattering, reflectometry, neutron-spin-echo
and quasi-elastic neutron scattering. For the final two days of the course, students can choose to follow three of the following six scientific subject areas; magnetism, soft matter, biology, engineering, chemical applications and amorphous materials.</span></font></div>

<font size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;">Accommodation and board is provided at <a href="http://www.st-annes.ox.ac.uk/"><font color="blue"><u>St Anne’s College</u></font></a>, Oxford, including breakfast and evening meals. There are limited places available
for non-residential attendees who do not require local accommodation.</span></font></div>

<font size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;">The fees for the school are £520 (€640) per student, or £220 (€270) for non-residential places. In addition to the accommodation and board, the fee includes all course materials, social receptions, and a gala dinner
on the second Wednesday of the school.</span></font></div>
