Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a Deputy Center Leader for the Lujan<br>

Neutron Scattering Center. The Lujan Center is a national user facility for neutron scattering<br>

supported by the Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) of the Department of Energy’s Office of<br>

Science. The Lujan Center is also directly used for research supporting the National Nuclear<br>

Security Administration’s (NNSA) national security mission. The selected candidate will support<br>

the center leader in leading and management of an organization of about 50 researchers and<br>

staff to execute a portfolio of close to $15M per year, principally from BES but also from NNSA,<br>

Laboratory Directed Research and Development, and other sponsors. The Deputy Center<br>

Leader is a member of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) Management Team<br>

and will work with the LANSCE Facility Director and other research leaders at LANSCE in setting<br>

scientific and budgetary priorities.<br>

The successful candidate will be a visible and effective champion for neutron scattering science<br>

in the U.S., partnering closely with Spallation Neutron Source and High Flux Isotope Reactor<br>

leadership at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the NIST Center for Neutron Research, as well<br>

as with BES’s photon sources and nanoscience research centers, to advance and grow the U.S.<br>

neutron scattering science community. He or she will promote collaborations with other LANL<br>

User Facilities, such as the Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (CINT) and the National High<br>

Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL). Beyond technical leadership and management, the Deputy<br>

Center Leader will be expected to manage, lead and develop people, recruit and retain critical<br>

skills in the workforce, and support diversity and affirmative action. In addition, he or she will be<br>

expected to promote safe and secure facility operations, and the fiscal management of all Lujan<br>

Center functions.<br>

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary<br>

research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances<br>

national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing<br>

technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related<br>

to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.<br>
