The unique nuclear facilities and science and technology capabilities of the Nuclear Laboratories are applied to ensure Canadians and the world receive energy, health, environmental and economic benefits while assuring nuclear safety and security.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Operating within AECL Nuclear Laboratories, at the NRU reactor, the Canadian Neutron Beam Centre (CNBC) operates six neutron scattering instruments as an international user facility. The NRU reactor is a medium-flux, multipurpose thermal-neutron source that operates at approximately 100 MW. Each year, about one hundred neutron scattering projects are undertaken, supporting the R&D programs of more than two hundred research participants from industries, government laboratories and academia from across Canada and abroad. Over the past five years, CNBC research participants included more than 700 individuals from over 60 departments in about 30 Canadian universities and from over 100 foreign institutions in over 20 countries. A CNBC researcher with relevant subject-matter expertise will serve as mentor and functional supervisor. Research topics will be established jointly between the candidate and the mentor. Science and technology outcomes are expected to be published in leading international peer-reviewed journals and scientific or technological conferences. Successful candidates will be provided an annual stipend of $55K + 4% in lieu of vacation.
