<span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB) operates two large scale facilities for materials research: the neutron source BER II and the synchrotron source BESSY II</span><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">,
 which provide deep insights into the structure of materials and the processes within complex systems. Each year around 3,000 scientists use the HZB infrastructure facilities.
</span><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The Department Methods for Characterization of Transport Phenomena in Energy Materials operates the triple axis spectrometer for cold neutrons FLEXX in user service and engages in fundamental
 research on novel energy conversion materials with a particular focus on thermoelectric materials.
