<div class="">The Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI, is the largest research centre for natural and engineering </div>

<div class="">One of the main missions of PSI is to conceive, build and operate large-scale facilities. </div>
<div class="">Currently, PSI is in the unique position to offer within a single organization and on a </div>
<div class="">single site, around 40 beamlines at the Swiss muon, neutron and light sources. With the </div>
<div class="">realization of the X-ray free electron laser SwissFEL, PSI will be able to add by 2017 an </div>
<div class="">additional outstanding facility to its suite.</div>

<div class="">This division currently consists of about 228 members of staff (of which about 40% financed over </div>
<div class="">third party funding) distributed in the following units:</div>

<div class="">The laboratory for particle physics; laboratory for neutron scattering and imaging; </div>
<div class="">laboratory for muon spin spectroscopy; laboratory for scientific developments and novel materials; </div>
<div class="">laboratory for mesoscopic systems and surfaces. </div>
<div class="">These five laboratories operate 27 beamlines at the neutron and muon sources. They </div>
<div class=""> support and accompany research carried out by external users as well as they perform </div>
<div class=""> their own “in-house” research.</div>

<div class=""> These laboratories are complemented by the condensed matter theory (CMT) group, </div>
<div class=""> currently embedded in NUM, and the SINQ operation group. The CMT group supports experimental </div>
<div class=""> research at PSI and pursues its own research. The SINQ operation group takes care of operating </div>
<div class=""> both ultra-cold and cold (thermal) neutron sources.</div>

<div class="">Through scientific leadership and organizational skills the successful candidate will promote a world-class </div>
<div class="">experimental program aiming at supporting both internal researchers and thousands of external users.</div>

<div class="">The director of the NUM division will be member of the PSI executive board.</div>

<div class="">The successful candidate for this position will be an internationally renowned and active </div>
<div class="">scientist in a division’s field of research. He/she is expected to lead a personal research </div>
<div class="">program including acquisition of necessary funds. Furthermore, he/she will have extensive </div>
<div class="">proven leadership, management and administrative skills.</div>
