neutron centres worldwide. These instruments must undergo continual improvements in line with cutting-edge standards to ensure they are ready and capable of meeting the exacting demands of future neutron research. Furthermore, with the European Spallation
Source (ESS) an important new neutron source will soon go into operation. Together with its European partners, JCNS is building a total of four neutron scattering instruments there. The department of Instrument Technology at JCNS encompasses many kinds of
technical expertise, starting from the design of the mechanical structure of the instruments, including the entire control and automation technology through to the development of a user-friendly graphic interface for ease of operation.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
