Introduction

The condensed matter and magnet science group (MPA-CMMS) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking highly motivated, outstanding postdoctoral candidates to participate in a research program focusing on the discovery and understanding of helimagnetic and skyrmion materials.

Job description

The candidate will carry out neutron scattering measurements on such materials and related compounds with a strong emphasis on inelastic neutron scattering. In addition, the candidate will join efforts at MPA-CMMS to synthesize large, high-quality single crystals materials of interest by means of Czochralski and flux-growth methods. The position is available immediately with an initial appointment of two years.

Requested Profile

Applicants should have a strong background in the physics of strongly correlated electron systems, and particularly in magnetism. Demonstrated expertise in neutron scattering in general is a requirement for the position of interest. Additional knowledge of inelastic scattering techniques is highly desirable. Experience with material synthesis is relevant but not required. Also beneficial are programming skills that are required for the analysis of complex neutron scattering data sets. The successful candidate should have excellent communicational skills, and the ability to work as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary research team, as well as a record of scientific research through publications and presentations. A Ph.D. in physics completed within the last five years is required at or near the time of hiring.
