The ISIS Crystallography Group is seeking an Instrument Scientist to support the user programme of powder and single crystal diffraction on WISH (and other diffraction instruments).
We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the Crystallography Group to support the user programme of powder and single crystal diffraction on WISH (and other diffraction instruments), contribute to ongoing equipment development projects and perform their own research programme in the field of crystallography.
The Crystallography Group at ISIS operates 8 neutron diffraction beamlines, performing world class powder and single crystal diffraction studies covering a broad range of academic and industrial research. Of these, the WISH diffractometer is widely recognised as a world-leading facility for studies of the structural and magnetic properties of advanced materials, using both powder and single crystal methods. In addition, the unique capabilities of WISH are increasingly being exploited to probe a diverse range of other scientific problems, including in areas such as catalysis and high pressure studies. Such a wide range of experiments requires a high level of local support and expertise to support visiting research teams. In addition, there is an active programme of developments on WISH to expand its application into new areas and maintain its world leading position. These include the design of novel sample environment devices, including high pressure cells and in-situ studies under high magnetic fields, the development of advanced data analysis methods and software and, in the longer term, the design of new instrumentation.
