Canberra / ACT
Applications are invited for a two (2) year appointment as an ANU/ANSTO Joint Postdoctoral Fellow (Level A) to study the structural and dynamic effects of advanced functional materials like polar functional materials (such as ferroelectric and multiferroic materials), and energy conversion and storage materials mainly through neutron scattering.
Neutron scattering experiments will be carried out mainly on the new Time-of-flight Spectrometer (PELICAN), Thermal 3-axis Spectromenter (TAIPAN), and the high-intensity (WOMBAT) and high resolution (ECHIDNA) powder diffractometers at the OPAL research reactor in Sydney. The sample preparation and other physical property characterisation will be done at the ANU. The position will be based at the Bragg Institute in Sydney (Dr. Dehong Yu) and at the Australian National University in Canberra (Prof. Yun Liu) with approximate fraction of 50:50.
A PhD degree in condensed matters physics, materials science or a related area is essential. You are expected to have a strong research background in two or more of solid-state physics, neutron scattering, materials chemistry and advanced functional materials. You will play a critical role in exploring the structural and dynamic effects of technologically important functional materials via several neutron diffraction/scattering techniques.
