The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is an international centre for scientific research situated in Grenoble, France. It is Europe’s leading neutron science facility. We receive over 2000 visiting scientists per year to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields. The Science Division currently has a vacancy for a: Research Scientist (m/f) – Diffuse and inelastic neutron scattering
Working within the Time-Of-Flight and High-Resolution (TOF/HR) Group, in addition to carrying out your own active research programme, you will be in charge of:
The instrument D7 is strongly anchored in magnetism. While wishing to preserve this focus we aspire to open D7 up to new communities and would consider applicants with research backgrounds in other fields, such as soft matter or materials science.
Generous company benefits (expatriation allowance), relocation assistance and language courses may be offered for you and your spouse (for more information, please consult our employment conditions).
Fixed-term contract of 5 years

We are particularly interested in highly motivated candidates with knowledge of neutron scattering techniques.
A strong background in instrumentation, in particular neutron polarization analysis, is an asset.
The post represents an excellent opportunity for young postdoctoral scientists to develop expertise, broaden experience and interact with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from more experienced scientists able to obtain a secondment period from their home institution will also be considered.
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
