Introduction

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe’s leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world. The Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL’s scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. The Reactor Division currently has a vacancy for an Industrial computing Technician (m/f)

Job description

Duties:
You will join the group responsible for the maintenance of the instrumentation and control systems of the High-Flux Reactor, where your main duties will be to:

  • provide preventive and corrective maintenance of the reactor’s supervisory control systems
  • design and implement modifications to the supervisory control systems and the Ethernet network to which the controllers, data acquisition servers and man-machine interfaces are connected
  • develop SCADA systems in order to satisfy user requirements and keep pace with hardware enhancements
  • draft the specifications for work to be performed, monitor subcontractors, prepare and conduct tests, and update documentation
  • report on activities

Indefinite-term contract.
Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required (compulsory medical examination prior to taking up duties).

Requested Profile

Qualifications and experience:
You have an NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC HND) in automation and industrial computing, as well as at least 3 years’ initial professional experience in this field, enabling you to work with a certain degree of autonomy.
An in-depth knowledge of the SCADA software Panorama E2 (or equivalent systems) and of Ethernet networks is essential. Some knowledge of Labview, .NET, C#, and of the Windows operating environment (SQL, hyperV, TSE, etc…) is desirable.
You are interested in Quality Assurance and in working in the nuclear sector, have a “hands-on”, methodical and meticulous approach to your work, and possess good writing skills. You have a strong service-oriented attitude and are able to work independently or as part of a team while complying with regulatory requirements.

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound command of the French language (minimum level of proficiency: B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference); knowledge of English and/or German would be appreciated.
