The Technische Universität Wien is the largest institution for higher education and research focused on science and technology in Austria and has 4.800 employees and 29.000 students. The dark matter group at the Atominstitut, together with the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (HEPHY), is a member of the direct Dark Matter detection experiments CRESST and EURECA.
The successful candidate will analyse data taken with the CRESST experiment, including energy reconstruction, event selection and their statistical interpretation. New algorithms and computational methods should be implemented and tested. In addition, studies on alternative Dark Matter models, background sources and comparison of measured and simulated data could be performed. Contributions to the operation of the CRESST experiment at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory in Italy (LNGS) are expected. Participation in the research and development program for next generation Dark Matter experiments is possible.
For this position, a minimum gross salary of 1.685 €/month (fourteen times a year, 25 hours/week) is offered.
The candidate should have a Master degree in experimental particle physics and a solid background in astroparticle physics. Expertise in dark matter detection techniques, modern programming languages as well as in data analysis will be advantageous.
