Description of Institution

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) is an international centre for scientific research situated in Grenoble, France. It is Europe’s leading neutron science facility. We receive over 2000 visiting scientists per year to carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields.

Job description

Duties:
Working on IN20, your main missions will be to:

  • Co-manage the instrument
  • Provide the instrument users with support for performing their experiments and collecting and analysing the relevant data under optimal conditions
  • Initiate development and maintenance
  • Develop your own scientific work and establish strong collaborations
  • Promote neutron science, with particular emphasis to ILL, within the scientific community and the general public.

Fixed-term contract of 3 years renewable for a further 2-year period.

Requested Profile

Qualifications and experience:
You have:

  • a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics, or equivalent qualification
    Experience in neutron scattering, knowledge in magnetism and crystallography, and an interest in the collective dynamics of magnetic materials
  • Practical skills in instrumentation and software development.
  • Some experience with polarized neutrons is desirable.

Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
