Description of Institution

The Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Georg-August-University Göttingen operates the Three Axes Spectrometer PUMA at the Research neutron source Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching near Munich, that belongs to the most powerful instruments worldwide. Within the last years, a multianalyser system was developed as an innovative and unique compo-nent that allows time-resolved experiments on short time scales, in particular.

Job description

For the further development and the operation of the three axes spectrometer PUMA we are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

(pay group E13 TV-L, full-time, place of employment Garching, limited-term employment initially until Sep 30, 2019, with the perspective of subsequent pro-longation at the Technical University of Munich)

Your field of activity:
You are responsible for the three axes spectrometer PUMA and supervise users from vari-ous areas of scientific research during their experiments. You assist during the selection of optimized configurations of the spectrometer and during the interpretation of the data. More-over, you design own research projects and use the experimental facilities at FRM II and complementary methods available at the Institute for Physical Chemistry in Göttingen. You are also involved in academic teaching by supervising students during their practicals.

Requested Profile

Your profile of qualification:
You have a final degree (Diploma, MSc.) in a scientific discipline and got your PhD preferen-tially on the field of solid state research. For your original scientific studies you have used amongst others scattering methods with neutrons or photons. You like to work in a team with scientists and technicians and you are distinguished by your creativity and flexibility, as well as by your readiness to perform demanding experimental work.
