Introduction

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join the team of the polarized diffuse scattering time-of-flight neutron spectormeter DNS as an instrument scientist to support the user operation and further instrument developments, and to actively perform own research in close cooperation with the JCNS Institute JCNS-2 in the fields of frustated magnets and topological quantum materials, nanomagnetism and functional correlated electron materials.

Description of Institution

The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) operates at the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz-Zentrum (MLZ) in Garching near Munich a suite of high performance neutron scattering instruments. It provides access to these instuments for scientists from universities and research institutions in Germany and throughout the world. Within the user program more than 1000 scientists visit the MLZ every year to perform experiments in the physical, chemical, biological and materials sciences. In addition, JCNS is actively pursuing a research program in the field of soft matter science and condensed matter physics.

Your Job

  • perform high level experiments supporting national and international user groups
  • Support further instrument development and improvements
  • Develop an own scientific profile and visibility pursuing research projects in the above mentioned fields
  • work actively on expanding the user base at MLZ

Requested Profile

Your Profile

  • a University degree with an additional PhD degree in Physics, Materials Physics or related discipline
  • strong background in experimental condensed matter physics, particularly in magnetism and/ or strongly correlated electrons
  • experience in neutron or X-ray scattering
  • experience in high-pressure scattering experiments or in time-of-flight Neutron spectroscopie techniques with skills and interests in computer programming such as Python would be an advantage
  • very good command of written and spoken English
  • initiative character, creativity, good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, results orientation and analytical skills
  • ability to work independently and as a player in the DNS Team
  • readiness to work on-call-duty during the user operation periods
