Oak Ridge, Tennessee
The Structure and Dynamics of Soft Matter group (SDSM), in the Biology and Soft Matter Division (BSMD) of the Neutron Sciences Directorate, Oak Ridge national laboratory (ORNL), is seeking candidates for postdoctoral research associates in the area of soft materials. The SDSM group is responsible for the scientific and user programs on several of the neutron scattering instruments at ORNL’s Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), two of the highest flux neutron sources in the world. Combined with other leading capabilities in chemical synthesis and advanced computing, ORNL delivers a unique set of tools for the study of soft condensed matter. The initial appointment is a temporary full-time assignment not to exceed 24 months.
The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States’ highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world’s most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 27 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron irradiation. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to: http://neutrons.ornl.gov
