The Operations Engineer functions within the Central Utilities team to monitor and manage operating systems. The Operations Engineer shall provide proficient and reliable operations support consistent with the approved procedures. Will apply fundamental engineering knowledge to understand and troubleshoot system performance. Will participate in troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning of existing or new systems and components.
The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States’ highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world’s most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 27 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, plus five to seven years of experience in industrial systems including pumps, valves, piping, control systems, and related components.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, plus five to seven years of experience in industrial systems. Experience in distributed control systems (DCS), computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) software, water chemistry concepts, and bargaining unit workforce are desirable. Excellent communications skills, written and verbal, leading to an effective team environment with the collaboration of all levels, disciplines, and diverse cultural backgrounds of the organization.
