The following positions are available at the Intense Pulsed Neutron
Source at Argonne, IL, USA.

Postdoctoral Appointee Position
Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier scientific
research and development organizations, located 20 miles southwest of
Chicago, has an opening for Postdoctoral Appointee in the area of
neutron spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation. The opening is
in Argonne's Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) Division. IPNS is the
world's first major pulsed spallation neutron facility dedicated to
materials research.

The projects currently in progress at IPNS include:

(1) vibrational spectroscopy of hydrogen bonded molecular solids
(2) low frequency spectroscopy of adsorbates in porous materials such as
zeolites
(3) the diffusion of water in biological gels and hydrated polymers
(4) molecular dynamics simulations of these systems

This position requires a good understanding of neutron or optical
spectroscopy. Experience in relevant areas of chemistry such as zeolite
synthesis and molecular dynamics would be very useful. Previous
experience in MD or ab initio methods is desirable. Candidates must
have a Ph.D. awarded within the last 3 years in chemistry or materials
science.

Scientific Associate Position
Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier scientific
research and development organizations, located 20 miles southwest of
Chicago, has an opening for a Scientific Associate. The opening is in
Argonne's Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) Division. IPNS is the
world's first major pulsed spallation neutron facility dedicated to
materials research.

This person will be involved with maintaining, monitoring, and upgrading
equipment and instruments involved with the neutron instruments at IPNS,
and will assist in the performance of experiments. The ideal candidate
will have skills in utilizing time and resources to ensure the safe and
reliable operation of facilities, instruments, and experiments. In
addition, good skills are needed in keeping facility records, collecting
and analyzing data, specifying and obtaining parts or new equipment, and
communicating information and ideas to scientific users. Past
experience of working in laboratory user facilities and, specifically,
around neutron facilities is a plus. This level of knowledge and skill
is typically achieved through a BS or MS in a related field (physics,
chemistry, engineering) and several years of experience in related
equipment or experimental activities.

Cryogenics Engineer Opening
Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier scientific
research and development organizations, located 20 miles southwest of
Chicago, has an opening for a cryogenics engineer/scientist. The
opening is in Argonne's Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) Division.
IPNS is the world's first major pulsed spallation neutron facility
dedicated to materials research.

IPNS utilizes sophisticated cryogenics systems, including closed cycle
helium refrigerators, to cool its neutron thermalizing moderators. The
units consist of solid methane operated at 20K and liquid methane at
100K. We seek an experienced cryogenic person to join our cryo team.
The ideal candidate will have several years of cryogenics design and
operations experience and a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in a related technical
discipline (engineering, physics, etc.). Experience with vacuum
systems, leak detectors, instrumentation, automated data acquisition,
and electronics is desirable. The chosen candidate will be part of the
IPNS cryo team and will be expected to be the cryo group leader in a few
years.
