Postdoctoral Position in Neutron Scattering - PD983565

The Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron Scattering Center (Lujan Center) of the LANSCE
Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for a
postdoctoral
position involving neutron scattering from magnetic and strongly correlated
electron systems. Both neutron diffraction and inelastic scattering studies
will be pursued,
using the LANSCE pulsed spallation neutron source, the most intense source
of pulsed neutrons in North America. In addition, two new high-field
magnets, expressly
designed for neutron studies, will start operation in the next year or two,
and these will present completely new opportunities. The candidate will
assist with the
operation of and user program on the high-resolution chopper spectrometer
PHAROS, and will be expected to develop his/her own research program using
PHAROS
and other neutron scattering instruments at the Lujan Center. The
successful candidate must have experience with neutron or x-ray scattering
methods, or have
extensive experience with other methods for characterizing magnetic
excitations and phase transitions. Candidates must have demonstrated good
oral and written
communication skills and demonstrated good interpersonal skills. Experience
with inelastic neutron scattering using time-of-flight methods is
advantageous. For further
technical information contact Dr. Robert A. Robinson at rrobinson at lanl.gov
or (505) 667-3626.

A Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or
closely related field completed within the last three years or soon to be
completed is required.
Annual starting salaries range from $45,700 to $49,300, plus a generous,
comprehensive benefits package. Candidates may compete for a Director's
Fellowship and
outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious J. Robert
Oppenheimer Fellowship (Starting salary -$70,000). For consideration,
submit TWO COPIES of
a resume and publications list along with a cover letter outlining current
research interests to:
