Australian Research Council Post-doctoral Research Associateship

Salary: A$41,993 – A$45,076

Applications are invited for the above associateship to work with Dr
T.J. Hicks of Monash University and Dr S.J. Kennedy of the Australian
Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation on

Disordered and low dimensional magnetic systems

The techniques used for this experimental investigation will mostly be
magnetometry using a SQUID magnetometer and neutron diffraction using
powder and single crystal diffractometry and neutron polarisation
analysis. We are particularly interested in spin glass and random field
effects in the disordered systems and the role of anisotropy in the
stabilisation of pure and diluted two dimensional materials.

The appointee will be domiciled in Melbourne and required to
 carry out magnetometer measurements.
travel to Sydney and possibly internationally to carry out neutron
scattering experiments.
Participate in the analysis, interpretation and planning of the
programme of work.
Help supervise the postgraduate students in the programme.

The appointee will
have a Ph.D. and experience in magnetism. Neutron scattering
experience would be valuable.
be able to demonstrate experimental skills.
Have some experience in the modelling of physical (magnetic) systems.

Enquiries should be directed to
