Scientific Associate/Assistant openings at the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source
(IPNS), Argonne National Laboratory
Argonne National Laboratory, one of the nation's premier scientific research
and development organizations, located 20 miles southwest of Chicago, has
openings for Scientific Associates/Assistants. The openings are in Argonne's
Intense Pulsed Neutron Source (IPNS) Division. IPNS is the world's first major
pulsed spallation neutron facility dedicated to condensed matter research.
We seek persons with BS or MS degrees in engineering, physics, chemistry, or
computer science to fill two available openings.
Maintain, monitor operation, and upgrade equipment and instruments at IPNS (see
http://www.pns.anl.gov/ipnsinst.htm) and assist in the performance of
experiments, under the guidance of a Principal Investigator.
Considerable knowledge is required of the installation, operation,
maintenance and upgrading of equipment and instruments. Good knowledge is
needed of working around neutron facilities. Considerable skill is required in
using time and resources in order to ensure safe and reliable operation of
neutron facilities and instruments, aiding in the performance of neutron
experiments, and working well with other members of the operations groups.
Good skill is needed in keeping facility records, collecting and analyzing
data, specifying and obtaining parts or new equipment, maintaining spare parts
in order to ensure reliable operation, and communicating information and ideas
to scientific users.
