The Excitations Group operates four spectrometers: MAPS; HET; MARI and
PRISMA.  A new chopper spectrometer, MERLIN, is due to be commissioned in
2005.  The scientific programme is broad, encompassing magnetism,
superconductivity, amorphous materials, chemical spectroscopy and quantum
fluids.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated instrument scientist
who will work closely with visiting scientists using the Excitations Group
instruments, take an active role in instrument development and pursue a
scientific research programme.  A PhD in the physical sciences is essential
and previous neutron scattering experience and/or postdoctoral experience is
desirable.

Starting salary up to £32,380 per annum depending on experience. In the
range £20,410 to £35,620. A generous leave allowance and excellent indexed
linked pension scheme are also offered
