The Physics Department at New Mexico State University anticipates a
tenure-track assistant-professor appointment in experimental neutron
scattering and nanoscale science. The position would be jointly supported
by the Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center (LANSCE) for the initial six
years. Candidates will be expected to participate in collaborative research
efforts between NMSU and LANSCE. Applicants should have a strong background
in neutron scattering or similar techniques, and a PhD in Materials Science,
Physics, or a related field. The successful candidate will be expected to
establish an externally funded research program that utilizes the neutron
spectrometers at LANSCE (see www.lansce.lanl.gov) and supports Los Alamos’
and NMSU’s participation in a statewide nanoscale initiative. A strong
commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is expected.
Applicants should send a resume, a statement of research interest, a short
description of teaching philosophy and the names and addresses of at least
three references to: Heinz Nakotte, Chair, Faculty Search – Neutron
Scattering, Physics Department MSC, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces,
NM 88003. Screening of the applicants will begin on January 1, 2003, but
applications will be accepted until the position is filled. New Mexico
State University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
