UNIVERSITY of GLASGOW

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT

£19,460 - £29,128 per annum

REF 10758/DPL/A3

Professor C.C. Wilson, Regius Professor of Chemistry, has been awarded a
CCLRC Facility Development Grant to develop high performance scintillation
detectors for neutron diffraction. The University is now seeking a PDRA for
up to three years to contribute to this programme.

You will undertake an extensive R and D programme to evaluate novel
scintillator materials for use in neutron diffraction detectors at pulsed
neutron sources. You will develop suitable methods for reading out such
scintillators with the required position and timing resolution for single
crystal neutron diffraction applications. You will contribute to the
development of a prototype detector based on these findings.

Whilst employed by the University of Glasgow, you will spend most of your
time at the ISIS pulsed neutron source of Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in
Oxfordshire. Here you will be attached to the ISIS Neutron Detector Group
under the supervision of Dr. N. J Rhodes where most of the work will be
carried out. You must be prepared to visit and stay for short periods of
time at other research establishments both in the UK and abroad.

This position will ideally suit an applied scientist with a keen interest in
the development of instrumentation for large scale facilities.

Further details of the position can be obtained from Professor C.C. Wilson,

Applications comprising a covering letter and CV with names and contact
details of three referees should be sent to Professor C.C. Wilson,
