Research Scientist position at the ILL

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's 
leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL 
operates the brightest neutron source in the world, reliably delivering 
intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. The Institute 
welcomes 1500 visiting scientists per year to carry out world class 
research in solid state physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology, 
chemistry and fundamental physics. Funded primarily by its three founder 
members: France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the ILL has also signed 
scientific collaboration agreements with 6 other European countries.
The Science Division currently has an opening in its Diffraction Group for 
a RESEARCH SCIENTIST (M/F).

The post represents an excellent opportunity for a young postdoctoral 
scientist to develop his/her expertise, broaden his/her experience and 
interact with leading scientists from around the world. Applications from 
more experienced scientists on detachment would also be welcome.

We are looking in particular for a second instrument responsible for the 
polarised neutron diffractometer D3 
(<http://www.ill.fr/YellowBook/D3>http://www.ill.fr/YellowBook/D3), but we 
would also like to hear from scientists with a wider interest in 
understanding magnetic structures and the use of polarised neutrons.  The 
successful candidate will have a PhD in physics, chemistry or similar, and 
a good knowledge of crystallography, with experience in diffraction methods 
and instrumentation. In addition to carrying out a personal research 
programme, he/she will be expected to participate in the operation and 
development of the instrument.

  The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract, the 
duration of which will not exceed five (5) years. In addition to a 
competitive salary, certain benefits (reimbursement of removal expenses, 
adaptation allowance, etc.) may be offered.
