The "Exploring Matter with Neutrons" encyclopedia - second edition - was
presented to a select audience of 750 researchers involved in Neutrons
research during the "International Conference on Neutron Scattering"
which took place in Sydney, Australia between 27th and 2nd December
2005.

Here is an excerpt from the encyclopedia's presentation:
"When consulted in 1998 about the teaching of neutron science, the main
claim from teachers was "we need up-to-date educational material!" One
of the consequences was an ambitious CD-ROM project intended to cover
almost all aspects of neutron science and techniques. We will present
the outcome of this initial project, the CD-ROM "Exploring matter with
neutrons" v2. Let us summarize it in few numbers: [.] 1700 pages, 3000
images, animations and movies, and more than one hundred contributors
from the worldwide neutron community. The targeted audience is mainly
students, teachers, or scientists but not experts in specific domains of
neutron science, although it will prove useful in neutron summer schools
and to widen the general knowledge of specialists in a different neutron
area."

Nanopolis World of Knowledge platform preview presents recent scientific
and technological breakthroughs in the field of matter exploration at
atomic scale in a widely accessible manner. The core of the educational
content (~ 2500 multimedia animations) comes from the Nanopolis
encyclopedic series (http://nanotech.nanopolis.net ,
http://synchrotron.nanopolis.net , http://neutrons.nanopolis.net ).
Additional materials will be added through the development of the
"Exploring Bio-Nanotechnology" encyclopedia and through the Nanopolis
knowledge transfer platform. They will be accessible to users worldwide
following the pay-per-view philosophy. Universities and learning groups
benefit of special accounts allowing them to organize the existing
multimedia materials into online courses, to assign students to the
courses and to evaluate them by online quizzes.
