(http://www.ornl.gov) has an immediate opening for a post-doctoral
research associate. The successful candidate will develop software for
commissioning of the VULCAN engineering diffractometer at the Spallation
Neutron Source (SNS), a world-class scientific research program, using
neutron scattering techniques and ensure that the powder diffractometer
at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) is capable of supporting leading
edge science experiments. The position also supports the neutron
scattering users program on the HFIR powder diffractometer. The

Major duties and responsibilities include:

* Identifies and evaluates available software for engineering
diffraction at pulsed neutron sources

* Selects, adapts, and integrates existing software modules into
a package for commissioning of VULCAN

* Develops a user-friendly interface for the software package

* Works with SNS data analysis group to develop customized
visualization tools

* Creates documentation of the subject software package in
support of user operations

* Participates in the commissioning of VULCAN and evaluates its
performance and effectiveness

* Conducts cutting-edge research using VULCAN or similar
