The Paul Scherrer Institute is a centre for multidisciplinary
research and one of the
world’s leading user laboratories. With its 1200 employees it belongs
as an autonomous
institution to the Swiss ETH domain and concentrates its activities
on solid-state research
and material sciences, elementary particle physics, energy and
environmental research as well
as on biology and medicine.
The muon facilities at PSI are connected to the most intense muon
source worldwide, the
Swiss Muon Source SµS. They are used by solid-state physicists,
chemists and materials
scientists to investigate fundamental and technologically relevant
aspects of structural,
magnetic and electronic phenomena in condensed matter.

The Bulk-µSR Facilities group at the Laboratory for Muon Spin
Spectroscopy
(http://lmu.web.psi.ch - a division of the PSI research department
Condensed Matter
Research with Neutrons and Muons) is looking for an

              **** Experimental Physicist ****
              **** Instrument Scientist ****

Your tasks:
· Participation in the operation, maintenance and constant upgrading
of bulk-µSR
instruments at the Swiss Muon Source
· Development of new, cutting-edge experimental techniques in
particular
    µSR at very high pressure,
· To provide scientific support to the external users of the PSI
bulk-µSR facilities,
· To conduct and develop your independent “in-house” research
programme with
Muon Spin Spectroscopy as the main experimental technique.

Your profile:
You are a graduated PhD scientist with a broad expertise in solid
state physics and/or
physical-chemistry. You have expertise in muon spin spec troscopy
research and techniques.
You are familiar with some of the follo wing themes: data acquisition
and analysis techniques,
cryogenics and instru ment control. You like to work in a team, to
give support to and
collaborate with guest scientists. You have an excellent command of
English and possibly German.
